Construction overview

This is a new City of Elkhart Fire Station 6 being built at 2620 Ada Drive, replacing the older station on Osolo Road. The project sits in the northeast industrial corridor and is designed to improve emergency coverage as the area continues to grow.

What’s being built

The new station is planned at roughly 13,000 square feet with multiple apparatus bays and space for a ladder truck, engine, and a dedicated ambulance. It is a full replacement facility, not an expansion, which matters for long term capacity.

Timeline

Groundbreaking started in August 2025, and current projections point toward completion in late 2026. Based on visible progress, framing and exterior work are already underway.

What the photos show

The site includes posted project signage with a full rendering of the finished station, along with contractor and partner information. Current construction photos show active structural work, including block walls, insulation panels, steel framing, and roofing installation.

You can also see contractor presence on site, including Gibson-Lewis Contractors, along with union signage from Central Midwest Carpenters Local 413.

Location

This part of Elkhart has a heavy industrial footprint tied to RV manufacturing and related supply chains. Placing a new fire station here shortens response times where large facilities, equipment, and workforce density all stack risk in one place.

What to expect next

As construction continues, expect visible progress on exterior finishes, apparatus bay doors, and interior buildout. This will eventually transition from a raw construction site to a fully operational station serving the northeast side.
